The Science & SciLifeLab Prize for Young Scientists was established in 2013 to recognize and reward scientists in the early stages of their careers. The Science & SciLifeLab Prize for Young Scientists is a collaboration between Science, the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), and SciLifeLab.
Its purpose is to acknowledge excellence among young researchers worldwide, with a vision of promoting a vibrant research community essential for global economic health.
About SciLifeLab
SciLifeLab, short for Science for Life Laboratory, is a leading Swedish national centre specializing in molecular biosciences, particularly in the realms of health and environmental research.
The centre uniquely integrates cutting-edge technical capabilities with advanced expertise in translational medicine and molecular bioscience. This collaborative effort involves four prestigious Swedish universities: Karolinska Institutet, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm University, and Uppsala University.
Established in 2010, SciLifeLab was designated as a national centre in 2013 by the Swedish government. It boasts a network of over 200 research groups affiliated with its activities.

Who is eligible
The competition is:
- Open to residents of all nations, regardless of sex or race.
- Entrants must have obtained their PhD between January 1, 2022, and December 31, 2023.
- Entrants may apply only once during this period, and the research described must have been conducted during their graduate studies.
Application requirements
To apply, you need:
- A Completed Entry Form.
- An essay (maximum 1,000 words) by the entrant describing their thesis work and its research implications.
- A one-page reference letter from the advisor or a thesis committee member, assessing the applicant and commenting on the research’s significance.
- Abstract of the thesis (up to four double-spaced pages).
- Full citations of published or in-press papers related to the research, academic/professional awards, and relevant experience.
