About Chevening

Chevening is the UK government’s international awards programme designed to develop global leaders. It is funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) and partner organisations.

Chevening offers two types of awards:

  • Chevening Scholarships (for Master’s students)
  • Chevening Fellowships (for mid-career professionals)

Recipients are selected by British embassies and high commissions worldwide. Beyond academic study, the program equips scholars with leadership skills, professional networks, and cultural exposure to create a positive impact globally.

Chevening is fully funded, meaning selected students will not need to worry about most major expenses. The award includes:

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the Chevening Scholarship, applicants must:

  • Be a citizen of a Chevening-eligible country.
  • Commit to returning to their home country for at least two years after completing the scholarship.
  • Have at least two years (2,800 hours) of work experience.
  • Hold an undergraduate degree equivalent to a UK bachelor’s degree (sufficient for entry into a UK Master’s programme).
  • Apply to at least three eligible UK Master’s courses, and secure an unconditional offer from one by the deadline stated in the application timeline.

  • October 2025 – Initial eligibility screening
  • Oct 2025 – Jan 2026 – Applications assessed
  • Mid-February 2026 – Shortlisting for interviews

  • Mid-June 2026 – Final results released
  • 9 July 2026 – Deadline to submit unconditional university offer
  • September/October 2026 – Scholars begin studies in the UK
